July 31st, 2009
We started thinking recently… ya know what? We’re closer to an uber-classy 30 than a Jagerbomb-slugging 20. Those 4 am nights leave us foggy, disheveled, and grumpy. We're not into hangover food, we're into sushi. We're not into boys, we're into men. We're not into drama, we're into fabulous friends. And after a recent block-of-cheese incident late one night slash early in the morning, we felt... ashamed. And way too high in calcium and phosphorus. Our dairy content was Wisconsinesque.
You coulda branded our arse and started calling us Bessie.
It was time to corral our thoughts, and start using our herd. Err, head. And what did we come up with? We came up with the idea that sometimes when others around us (trusted, loyal, loving, and painstakingly truthful others) tell us things that should have smacked us right in the middle of our cheese-lovin' noggins—that maybe—just maybe—we should listen. Sometimes there's pain in truth, but being wrong can be liberating. Like breaking free from the fence and running to another, um… pasture. Obvs it's gonna be greener.

Lady in the Street
She is a woman with panache. She has gumption and yet a whimsical side. He is casually cool and classically tailored. He knows he’s got It, but not in an overly confident way. They are Penelope’s.
They see the trendy and can mish-mash cool pieces in what looks to be a casual manner. But it’s all planned. And that’s why it’s a brilliant secret to be let in on the oh-so-perfect finds at Penelope’s. You want to go heavy on the “intrigue” factor? Want to flex your intellect through your clothing? This is your store. Look for cool French labels and fantastic sales It's the stuff that peeps at Pitchfork should have worn this year but for some reason didn't (seriously, what happened this year with P4K fash?!?). They carry Sessun, Plastic Island and Charlotte Ronson for the ladies, and Shades of Greige, Cheap Monday, and Dunderdon for the guys. Plus you can pick up funky housewares while perusing.
Penelope’s doesn’t miss a beat, has reasonable prices, and is a surefire way to set tongues wagging.

Pearly Whites & Glowy Auras
Growing up in a small town left us feeling a bit um, underexposed later on in life. That was, of course, until we found catalogue shopping. Which led to online shopping. Which led to moving to a city that surrounds us with… ah…. choices.
We entered Mitchell Dental Spa (killer spot = Water Tower), and it was unlike any other dentist office we’ve ever seen. Non-threatening. Beautiful. Calming. Even the staff was good-looking and kind. A message therapist is on hand to for a complimentary massage to knead your neck and shoulders before your appointment, though you may be too busy watching your own flat-screen to realize you are, in fact, in a dentist’s office. We were beyond spoiled by their sweet-as-pie Esthetician Danijela, as she worked her magic during our divine facial. We felt truly radiant for days afterward.
Need a summer pick-me-up? Escape from your summer skin with a Desert Rose Facial in August. It’ll leave you glowy, rosehip and Vitamin C-induced, plus it’s 50% off for the entire month! Your glow will show for all the world to see.

She's a Lady
We heard this radio blip the other day about how the average woman is a size 14 or 16, and the average reality star is a size 2. Um, let's be realistic here, people. Women eat more than just nuts, berries, and twigs. Well, at least we can speak for ourselves on this. A little junk in the trunk never seemed to be a problem from all the mens in our life. A little softness can be sensual.
The curvaceous figure is beautiful, and every lady needs to know how to dress her hourglass-self right. Vive La Femme celebrates the femme fatale in all of us—in a classy, elegant manner. This shop offers looks and trends exclusively for sizes 12–24 at ridiculously reasonable prices. They have darling dresses, casual weekend wear, sassy suiting, and sleek separates for the Chicago woman who wants to dress to impress. Plus, don't miss a jewelry party starring Stella and Dot—a hot line of jewelry—this Thursday, August 6, from 5–7 pm. It totally fits the fun and vibrant feel the store so playfully represents.
Guys have been singing about our apple bottoms for years. There’s never been a better time to be bootylicious and proud of it!

Little Miss Fashionista
In general, we love to shop—obviously. Our favorite season to shop for is fall, and this year, we’re planning a total wardrobe revamp—edgier, bolder and more fashion-forward. Naturally, this means checking out the latest at our favorite new high-style website, 80s Purple.
From moderately-priced lines to high-end designers, rebellious street fashion and comfortable casual wear, it’s our new Mecca. Our favorites are the jumpers and dresses from Fremont and the rocker-chic necklaces from Hello Drama. Lovin’ it!

Not Just For Your Wall
We happen to have a weird new obsession with all things silhouette. There is just something so cute and retro about them—we love them everywhere—from our stationery to our walls. And now we can even have them on our tables.
We’re in love with the handmade silhouetted wood coasters from Pepper Sprouts. Perfectly unique, they spruce up our table and are much better than the cardboard beer coasters our boyfriend is always trying to sneak into the house.

You Are Our Sunshine
We’re having a definite yellow moment. To be honest, we never thought we could wear yellow—it’s one of those colors that scares us into wondering if we would look like an overgrown toddler. Then we met the Canary Dress by Holly Stalder, and all reservations went out the window.
Stalder has created the perfect layered silk chiffon dress—her designs are so romantic and girly, and we have been searching everywhere for the perfect place to wear this dress. (Too much for work? Nah.)
